Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR)
We are happy to announce that we Support TNR and and Return to Field for community cats and are working closely with Concerned Citizens for Animal Welfare (CCFAW) , Volusia Society for Aid to Animals, and The Farmhouse Cats, on a Trap, Neuter, Return of feral cats.
What is Trap Neuter Return?
The term TNR comes up frequently in animal rescue circles but not everyone has heard of it. TNR stands for “Trap, Neuter, Return”, or “Trap, Neuter, Release”. It is the practice of trapping feral, or free roaming cats and having them spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and then released back into their colony. Upon return, they have a small ‘tip’ cut out of their ear which identifies them as part of a protected colony.
Feral, or free roaming cats, when not ‘fixed’ can become nuisances especially when breeding. They mark their territory and become noisy and this is when business owners or individuals start getting upset.
What is Return to Field?
Return to field is very similar to TNR, but the cat does not have to be part of an official colony, it can be any cat who is picked up then gets fixed and released back where it came from, decreasing the time he or she is in a shelter. We are currently working on “Return to Field” with our feral cats who have no colony caregiver. Our goal is to help those that we can who come into our care, and place them back where they came from, instead of euthanizing them. We simply could not do this without YOUR support!
